Lee Garrett 'I Can'T Break The Habit' OG
Solidsoul replied to Tlscapital's topic in Look At Your Box
I never saw this auction finishing price. What did it go for? The original has never been common and not seen very often. The easy to spot 1970's reissue/boot has been sold as an original in the past. -
Years ago I was in Marks and Spencers clothing dept and "Thank You Baby" - Matt Brown came on! I think it's a fantastic record, and a favorite from the old Shotts Allanton allnighters up in Scotland, but it was very surreal to hear it there! None of the normal customers took the slightest bit of notice, they just carried on browsing the tee shirts!
-
A light green USA Capitol demo of "A Lil Lovin' Sometimes" - Alexander Patten! I don't think it exists. There are a few more Capitol numbers only issued with no demos. And a white demo of "Out On The Floor"- Dobie Gray on Charger.

John Manship Auction results 18th December 2024.
Solidsoul replied to Woodbutcher's topic in All About the SOUL
Yes I remember them on his list. I think they started about $60 until it became better known. He had plenty copies available, but I never bought one because he was repressing records and mixing them on his listings with originals, so I was never to sure about it being real. The story goes that they were free copies made to give away at Frederick Hymes III live concerts! You'll need to take that with a pinch of salt! -
Holy Grail- 45- "angel Baby" - Garland Green - Mca -Australian Issue
Solidsoul replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
I remember "Angel Baby" by Garland Green getting plays at the Highland Room, at the Blackpool Mecca in the mid 70's. Always thought the flip "You Played On A Player" a great record as well. I don't collect Australian records, but they do look good! -
Well spotted Codehound, that's a silly price. There are a lot of chancers out there who try their luck! It's always useful to check Popsike etc, when considering a purchase.

The first time I heard Jimmy Burns was at Wigan Casino in the late 70's, but I'm not sure if it was Richard Searling or Soul Sam that played it. I thought Jimmy Burns was great, but was not too keen on Brand New Faces. I do also like the Bobby James version as well.
-
More than offset with lots of great records played at that time as well. The late 70's yellow Grapevine label is the true Casino Classics label! Not that record label travesty of Winstanley's. Tomangoes, Al Williams, Larry Clinton, Billy Hambric, Lester Tipton, Betty Boo, Dena Barnes, The Agents, Sam Williams, Jimmy Burns, Delights, Morris Chestnut, Duke Browner and many more, all very popular at the Casino! Just about all the yellow Grapevine releases were based on records that were big at Wigan at that time.

Every time I tried to get something repaired on warranty, they said it's wear and tear, so that's not covered !

Great condition on this Northern Soul original USA 45. Mint- £375 + £10 fully insured. Top picture is record for sale.

That demo design is like my copy. There is also a cream label with brown on the left hand side demo. Also a green label with brown on the left hand side demo, all distributed by Liberty Records. Then there's the black issue copies. Maybe different pressing plants?
-
I've got Joe Murphy and Little Milton's "So Blue(without you)"records. But they don't sound like the Wade Flemons track to me. I thought maybe you knew of a Joe Murphy version of "I Can't Get Away From Your Love".
-
What Joe Murphy?

I don't think "My World Is On Fire" is super rare, but it's such a great record that the demand always has, and does, outstrip demand. A lot of copies will be coming from of ageing collectors, as it's going for strong money. "Saving My Loving For You" Peoples Choice is a great record as well. But they are different records that happen to be on the same label, so why does any record sell for more than another! When records are as good as these, I just like them all.
-
Interesting info and great picture. Also as most will know, "Stick To Me" Robert Walker was a popular play on the nighter circuit back in the early to mid 70's. Richard Searling included it on his 1976 RCA L.P. Jumping At The Go Go.

I'm pleased no one knows his true identity. It's good to have some mystery and unknown's in these times when the internet let's everyone know just about everything at their fingertips!

Ambers - potion of love 67. vs 74. release
Solidsoul replied to Psamsara's topic in All About the SOUL
Maybe because The Ambers was a very popular sound at Wigan Casino all-nighters at that time. Ronnie Walker was a popular play at Wigan as well, I think for the great DJ Mr Dave Evison. -
Manship's Auction Results- Nov. 27, 2024
Solidsoul replied to The Yank's topic in All About the SOUL
Over £1000 is a high price for a rare but inferior version of "The Same Old Thing" by The Olympics. This version sounds duller, and has less of an exciting production, than the standard released classic to me. I suppose it's something different to play! -

I remember when a girl on the dancefloor near me had a fan that she accidently dropped a few times. I think I was meant to be gallant and pick it up for her! But she was trouble, so I didn't take the bait
-
Maybe it will be good to re-engineer existing records? Take out instrumental backing sounds or vocals that detract from the song. Conversely we could add an extra chorus or an extra instrumental break? Overall I would rather it wasn't used and we just had the existing records. But as we have found out with the internet, the genie can't be put back in the bottle?

Lots of 45's are off centre. Some more than others. If it's only a little bit and it plays ok I usually accept it. If it's excessive and very noticeable, I would send it back or buy another copy. If just playing it at home you could offset the record to make it play true, but it's a bit of a fiddle. Sellers should mention condition faults like warps and off-centre in their descriptions. A lot of the copies of Roy Roberts on Tina are off centre. Some are ok, these one's must have been pressed before the screws on the machine worked loose.
