A Guy Steven’s favourite at the scene club
Billy Jo Jim Bob replied to Sceneman's topic in Look At Your Box
Occasionally when I’ve googled Discogs a foreign version has been returned by the search. Don’t know why, maybe just a glitch from Discogs, but it’s happened on more than one occasion. I would guess that they host the site in various global locations for security and access purposes. -

You can get foreign versions of Discogs pop up. I’ve just checked out the Spanish and Italian version where there are only sellers from that country. Maybe that was what he saw ? -

Over the years many have produced “tailor made” efforts for the soul scene. So in this respect it’s no different. I think the difference here is that the tracks are actually good. There is also ‘neo soul’ releases by the dozen every week that seek to mimic the sound of the sixties and seventies, and fail more often than not in my view. AI is here and here to stay. At work they have provided us with AI tools to write emails and documents, should we wish to use them. AI is being integrated into our products and solutions. In short it’s here now and will only grow in the coming years and we need to understand that. Even this sites hosting platform will probably have AI engines embedded for ‘enhanced functionality and user experience’. Just my thoughts.

Hearing Unexpected Music In Unexpected Places!
Billy Jo Jim Bob replied to Tony Turner's topic in All About the SOUL
Last Friday met up with a friend for a coffee in his local pub/ restaurant type place, quite old fashioned, when Papa Bear & the Cubs…”You’re so fine” comes over the pub sound track followed by various other rare soul tunes. Surreal I thought. -
Hi All Offering this semi known for sale after I found it in the storage boxes yesterday. The Toronados - Why dont you tell me - Winley The story on it (as I was told by a UK dealer) was that it was thought not to exist for many a year but a a couple of copies have surfaced over the years, so it does exist. The last sale for a decent copy on Ebay was about $487.00 . However, this copy is in G only if using M, Ex, VG, G & fair, and someone has tried to clean it. But the good news is that is plays without skips or jumps, but there is surface noise with pops and ticks for the first 40 seconds or so and then its still there but reduced after that, and the music does rise above it. label has no rip, tares or writing but is a little worn. If you dont know the 45 its a cracking NS uptempo tune, with a NS dance craze type tune on the flip. YT below for reference, ignore the scan it plays the side you want to hear. The price is £25 plus first post at 3 or recorded at 5, World wide at 6. Paypal F&F payment or add 4% to the total. PM to ask questions or Order. Thanks Andy

A mate visited Jerry Reed many years ago and Jerry gave him a copy of L Allen that was up on the wall in his house / studio. He asked about L Allen versus Larry Allen, and Reed said he didn’t press any copies as Larry Allen and did not know where these originated. He asked his recording engineer to confirm this, which he did. He also confirmed that L Allen’s name was in fact Leonard not Larry, which is usually an abbreviation for Lawarence. I believe he also said Leonard was a local sports journalist, but memory is fading a little. If you were wondering about the vocal, L was stood in the toilet singing as a makeshift recording booth according to Reed. Make if that what you will Andy

Forgot all about this record as it’s not really my thing. Had a listen to both and to my untrained ears definitely different vocalists. Looking at Wiki for Yvonne / Donna and it’s very country music focused. As for the backing tracks, having researched for several articles on various artists, what comes across is that the sixities music scene was a time of creativity and there were lots of connections developed up and down the US. Musicians, writers, producers etc moving around and working across genres. I would guess the connection is with writers / producers etc, but have no evidence of this to be fair. If you have the 45’s maybe worth checking ?

I have never known Royal Mail ask or make any enquiries as to what the value of the package is, should the customs declaration be missing or unreadable. Sometimes if the value is clearly shown, they leave a card telling you that you need to pay X amount and collect the parcel from the sorting office. However, I have had many packages delivered from the US where the value is clearly stated, no import duty or VAT has been paid, and the parcel has been delivered as normal without any further payment required. From the posties I know they see it as a pain for them to check import packages, but the government require it. But it seems from my experience anyway that most just go through without any checks as they don't have the time to do this, let alone chase you on whats in the package etc.

The seller has been selling good items for a while, and there is feedback over the years from people on here as I recognise names. I thought something was wrong when it just went offline. Also the item was a substantial price but less than what I’d expect. So it smelt wrong, and the sound file was never sent.
-
Yesterday I received and notification from Discogs saying a want had come up. The seller had a large inventory include lots of rare soul:and had hundreds of positive feedbacks. I contacted them and asked for a sound file of the 45 and they responded positively and asked for my email to send it. This was yesterday - Saturday. Today I received another Discogs ‘want’ notification for the same item. When I went to the item it was no longer for sale. OK no problem, but what was strange the whole inventory of the seller had disappeared and they no items for sale any longer. So how can a seller with hundreds of positive feedbacks and items for sale disappear within 24 hours ?

Hi All I'm offering the following uptempo Northern unknown / semi known track ( a snippet of the tune can be heard below). If someone is looking for something different and outside of the Top 500, then this fits the bill. Have it as a cover up and there will be few if any know it. Its an absolute stormer for the dance floor, but great at -2 for me (its an age thing ). Its not listed on Discogs, it is in fact a missing number in the Discogs label listing, and has only gone thru Ebay twice in the last 15 years or so. This is truly an very obscure item. I'm going to leave this open to bids / offers until 31st May. Offer by PM please and I'll keep people informed on the status of the offers The record is in great condition at Ex+, but there is a small chip in the centre hole on ONE SIDE ONLY strangely, so the centre hole is intact. It does NOT obscure any of the label details (artists, credits etc) and the label itself is great with NO stains, writing or dirt. If you're after something new.....over to you. Northern Unknown.mp3

Four Wonders 'Just Looking for My Love'
Billy Jo Jim Bob replied to Joesoap's topic in Look At Your Box
The Four Wonders were from Indiana but were brought to Ohio to record by Eddie McGhee and John Brinson. Is there any evidence to suggest a connection to the Imperial Wonders ? Nothing I can find immediately. However I wrote an article on here some time ago which involved the Imperial Wonders, and what was clear they changed line up frequently with members leaving and then returning. There seemed to be a real churn. The internet rumour was that the IW’s were also the Cool Sounds but this is not really true according to what Al Boyd told me. The went to LA to see what they could do and one member left to join the Cool Sounds formed by Bobby Sanders. There is a reference to Al Boyd and another member leaving IW’s and then rejoining from another band. Could this be the Four Wonders ? I guess we’ll never know……or will we ?
